NOE: Innovation-driven, revolutionary range of windsurfing hydrofoils
Creating access to windfoil and high performance sailing through innovation and technology.

In the space of a few years, windfoiling has revolutionized the windsurfing world. With the selection of a windfoil class for the 2024 Olympic Games, it is clear that this discipline embodies the future of the sport.

Windfoil innovations and products have followed one after the other over the last few years to offer ever lighter and better performing foils, with different geometries and sizes.With the explosion of foils on the market, choosing the best equipment to your needs is often confusing. In this article we will explain the technologies we have integrated into our foils, and how to choose equipment according to the conditions and your level.

We develop modular hydrofoils that easily cross over to different disciplines.

Our innovations focus on the modularity of the foils, materials used, and manufacturing methods. Front wings, fuselages, masts and rear stabilizers can be adapted and exchanged very easily according to the performance desired, local conditions and your windfoil discipline (wing, freeride, freestyle, or race). Our manufacturing method and materials used give us better results in terms of performance, allowing our foils better crossover between disciplines. While most of our competitors use PrePreg manufacturing for the production of carbon parts, we use a unique method called DFCM (Dynamic Fluid Carbon Molding). This method allows us to use a wider range of carbon fibers (including Ultra High Modulus carbon) which gives a better quality and rigidity to our foils, leading to higher performance on the water.

3 fuselage lengths and two types of material.

  • 75cm, for a faster and more reactive foil;
  • 85cm, for more power in downwind/upwind and light wind, more versatility and better stability.
  • 95cm, for lightwind and race performance

The fuselages are made of aluminium or titanium because both are isotropic materials: they offer the same resistance in all directions. The stiffer the fuselage is, the more control and stability.

We have noticed during numerical simulations that our aluminium fuselages warp a little at high speed (~ 3-4 mm) under the effect of the torque applied by the wings. This changes the balance of the foil. Testing with titanium - a much stiffer material - this deformation is limited to 1 mm, giving more stability at higher speeds. A 85 cm titanium fuselage is therefore equivalent to a 105 cm aluminium fuselage. In short: aluminium is ideal for versatility and freeride, while titanium is perfect for anyone who wants to invest in a high performance product for the long term, that performs well in big conditions.

2 mast sizes, and the choice between different carbon fibers.

  • The 80 cm carbon HR mast to learn and progress;
  • The 97 cm carbon HR mast for maximum rigidity, stability and control;
  • The 97cm carbon UHM mast is high-performance oriented, thanks to its increased rigidity and therefore unique performance. Its UHM carbon composition allows it to be 2.5 times stiffer than the Carbon HR version.

Shorter masts are preferable for calm waters and people who want to progress easily. For beginners, we recommend a 80 cm mast. A short mast is safer because the distance between the water and the board is closer. For those who are looking for performance and want to be sure to sail above the waves, even with a strong heel, we recommend the 97cm mast.

Our masts can be fitted with a Deep Tuttle or Powerbox depending on their configuration.

A choice of 4 wings to cover all windfoil uses and conditions.

All our wings are equipped with the Standard Windfoil Mount - they are all compatible with TAAROA windfoil fuselages.

The Freeride 80 WF wing is a very versatile and progressive 860cm2 wing. It is the wing that comes as a standard with the NOE 80 and NOE 97 Freeride. Its aspect ratio has been calculated to offer great stability, excellent glide and excellent control to fly longer.

The Freerace 80 WF wing (which equips the Noe 97 Freerace) is more suitable for riders looking for speed. Very stable at high speed, its profile has been studied to limit induced drag and cavity effects. It is made of HR carbon but it is also available in UHM carbon (with the NOE 97 UHM) in order to have an even stiffer wing.

We also offer the Freerace 1050 WF wing and the Freeslalom 600 WF wing which are both made of HR carbon fiber.

With a surface area of 1050cm2, the Freerace 1050 WF front wing is inspired by the racing wing profiles developed by TAAROA. It is ideal for light wind conditions, allows a very fast take-off and still remains very stable in stronger winds.

The Freeslalom 600 WF (600 cm2) front wing is a real racing wing designed for speed. It has been designed to offer unique acceleration and speed performance, yet remains very stable thanks to its innovative profile. Note that the take-off is early for a wing of this size and you will quickly gain confidence if you are looking for performance in big conditions.

If you are a foil beginner, we recommend that you start with the Freeride 80 WF or 1050 WF wing. It is important that you feel comfortable on your foil and that the learning curve is easy. Your foil should have a front wing that will make you feel safe even if it will limit your top speed a little. With a large front wing you can also use smaller boards and sails, which is always fun. The speed will come later (if you wish) by developing your foil and/or technique. Enjoy the fun side of the foil at low speed with a freeride oriented foil.

For experts, you will have the ideal foil with the FREERACE or FREESLALOM wing. Indeed, you will certainly need a smaller wing because a wing that is too big will produce too much lift at high speed. On the other hand, be careful that the front wing is not too small if you want to take off quickly.

2 rear stabilizers for our windfoil range.

All our rear stabilizers are equipped with the Quick & Precise system. This system allows you to adjust the angle of attack of the stabilizer according to the performance you are looking for, for more or less negative lift.

  • The Freeride 42 WF is well suited for freeriding. It is wider and therefore gives more control and handling. This stabilizer is made of HR carbon.
  • The Freeride 45 WF is perfect for riders looking for speed. It is available in HR carbon or UHM carbon.

UP: the new standard for modular and multi-disciplinary hydrofoils
The UP is a foiling platform that has been developed to make foiling easier and more accessible, marking a new standard with its modular and versatile design. Il works well for surf & SUP foil, but is also suitable for wind, wing, wake and kitefoil. It is a no brainer.
